Der intrahepatische porto-cavale Shunt

Abstract: The Intrahepatic Porto-Caval Shunt Summary. The transjugular transhepatie route to the Portal vein has some advantages for the surgeon, if he wants to perform a porto-caval shunt. Different kinds of intrahepatic porto-caval shunts were tested in dogs to show a possible application in man. An operative technique with drilling sharp catheters proved to be specially useful. A rotating catheter with a suctioning device was able to cut a shunt from a hepatic vein to the portal vein.

“…The technique, modified from that of Rosch et al [2], involved placement of a balloon-expandable metal stent within a liver-tissue track previously formed by a transjugular needle puncture. Unlike previously described intrahepatic shunts [2][3][4][5][6][7], ours directly connected the inferior vena cava with the portal bifurcation in a side-to-side fashion. Most of our reported shunts remained patent for as long as they were under study; nevertheless, more than half required recanalization of the lumen by balloon angioplasty after early thrombosis.…”
