Depth-resolved imaging of colon tumor using optical coherence tomography and fluorescence laminar optical tomography

Abstract: Early detection of neoplastic changes remains a critical challenge in clinical cancer diagnosis and treatment. Many cancers arise from epithelial layers such as those of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Current standard endoscopic technology is difficult to detect the subsurface lesions. In this research, we investigated the feasibility of a novel multi-modal optical imaging approach including high-resolution optical coherence tomography (OCT) and high-sensitivity fluorescence laminar optical tomography (FLOT)… Show more

“…A high-speed, high-resolution Fourier-domain OCT system was used in this study. 10,13,[53][54][55] The details of the OCT system have been previously described. 13 Brie°y, an OCT system consisting of a swept-source laser (100 nm bandwidth at 1310 nm center wavelength) yielding an axial resolution of 10 m in tissue was used.…”

“…1). [34][35][36][37] This system uses a swept-source laser operating at 1310-nm center wavelength with 100-nm bandwidth. The axial and lateral resolutions of the system are 12 and 6 μm, respectively.…”

“…The details of the SS-OCT system have been previously described. [13][14][15][16][17] Briefly, the light source was a swept-source laser with 100-nm bandwidth centered at 1310 nm, which yielded an axial resolution of ∼10 μm in tissue. The lateral resolution was ∼15 μm.…”
