“…However, it was later withdrawn because of rare incidence of hemolytic anemia (Martlew 1986). Amineptine which inhibits dopamine re-uptake, was active in preclinical antidepressant tests (Garattini and Mennini 1989) and combines lack of cardiotoxicity with good therapeutic efficacy (Marconi et al 1989;Rampello et al 1991). Tolcapone, a catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitor, demonstrated possible anti-anhedonic properties in a pre-clinical electrophysiological chronic mild stress model (Moreau et al 1994), whereas low doses of the dopamine receptor blocker amisulpiride that may have activating actions through presynaptic mechanisms was active in reducing negative symptoms (Pelissolo et al 1996).…”

“…Amineptine is a tricyclic antidepressant drug that is commonly used in clinical medicine. It is devoid of anticholinergic effects and is suitable for the treatment of depression in elderly people (Marconi et al, 1989). Although biochemical studies have shown that it may inhibit the uptake of dopamine in the brain (Samanin et al, 1977: Bonnet et al, 1987, there is no electrophysiological data concerning the effects of amineptine on neuronal dopamine responses.…”
