This study examined the role of childhood adversity experiences, psychological distress and resilience on depressive symptoms. The sample consisted of 443 Indonesian university students. Participants' age range from 17 to 21 (M = 18.60, SD = 0.61). Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Questionnaire, General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ-12), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) were used to guide data collection. Path analysis results revealed the direct relationship between the childhood traumas with depressive symptoms and, had no direct relationship on resilience. In addition, resilience partially mediates the relationship between adolescents' psychological distress and depressive symptoms but not to childhood trauma and depressive symptoms. These results indicate the importance of the influence of resilience and the importance of the development of university based programs aimed to promote resilience among Indonesian university students. (1) This study aims to examine the prevalence of depression and its correlation with Acculturative Stress and Social Connectedness among domestic and international students in an international university in Japan. (2) Methods: A Web-based survey was distributed among several classes of students of the university, which yielded 268 responses. On the survey, a nine-item tool from the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the Social Connectedness Scale (SCS) and Acculturative Stress Scale for International Students (ASSIS) were used together with socio-demographic data. (3) Results: The prevalence of depression was higher among international than domestic students (37.81% and 29.85%, respectively). English language proficiency and student age (20 years old) showed a significant correlation with depression among domestic students (β = −1.63, p = 0.038 and β = 2.24, p = 0.048). Stay length (third year) also displayed a significant correlation with depression among international students (β = 1.08, p = 0.032). Among international and domestic students, a statistically significant positive correlation between depression and acculturative stress, and negative associations of social connectedness with depression and acculturative stress were also found. (4) Conclusions: The high prevalence of depression, and its association with Acculturation stress and Social Connectedness, among the students in this study highlight the importance of implementing support programs which consider the role of Acculturation and Social Connectedness.

ÖZET Amaç: Depresyon üniversite öğrencilerinde görülebilen önemli bir psikolojik rahatsızlıktır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, tıp fakültesi, sağlık yüksekokulu ve sağlık meslek yüksekokulu öğrencilerinde depresyonun aile-arkadaş ilişkisine ve akademik başarıya etkisinin olup olmadığını araştırmaktır. Yöntem: Çalışmanın evrenini, bir üniversitenin tıp fakültesi (n:61), sağlık yüksekokulu (n:236) ve sağlık meslek yüksekokulunda (n:251) okuyan toplam 548 birinci sınıf öğrencilerinden oluşmaktadır. Çalışma tanımlayıcı olup, 01/05/2017-01/10/2017 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler, literatür taraması ile oluşturulan anket formu ve Beck Depresyon Ölçeği (BDÖ) aracılığı ile toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Ders durumu kötü-çok kötü olan öğrencilerin BDÖ ortalamalarının, ders durumu orta ve iyi-çok iyi arasında olan öğrencilerin ortalamalarından daha yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır. (p<0.001). Arkadaşlık ilişki durumu Kötü-çok kötü olan öğrencilerin BDÖ ortalamalarının, arkadaşlık ilişki durumu orta ve iyi-çok iyi arasında olan öğrencilerin ortalamalarından daha yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır (p<0.001). Ailevi ilişki durumu iyi-çok iyi olan öğrencilerin BDÖ ortalamalarının, ailevi ilişki durumu orta ve kötü-çok kötü arasında olan öğrencilerin ortalamalarından daha düşük olduğu saptanmıştır (p<0.001). Sonuç: Araştırma sonuçları öğrencilerde depresyonun akademik başarı, aile ve arkadaşlık ilişkilerini olumsuz etkilediğini göstermektedir. Toplumun önemli bir kısmını oluşturan üniversite öğrencilerinin okul başarılarını iyileştirmek ve aile-arkadaşlık ilişkilerini güçlendirmek için danışmanlık hizmeti verilmesi gerekmektedir. ABSTRACT Objectives: Depression is an important psychological disorder that can be seen in university students. The aim of this study is to investigate whether depression is influenced by family-friend relationship and academic achievement in medical faculty, health high school and vocational health high school.Methods: The students' universe consists of a total of 548 first-year students studying at a university in the faculty of medicine (n: 61), health college (n: 236) and health vocational college (n: 251). The study is descriptive and was conducted between 01/05/2017-01/10/2017. The data were collected through a questionnaire prepared by literature review and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI).Results: It was determined that students with a bad-to-poor condition had higher BDI averages than those with medium to goodto-good average (P <0.001). It was found that the BDI averages of students with a bad-to-very bad friendship status were higher than those of middle to good-best students (p <0.001). It was found that the BDI averages of the students with good-to-good family relations were lower than the average of the middle to poor-poor students (p <0.001). Conclusion:The results of the study show that depression negatively affects academic achievement, family and friendship relations in students.
