Deployment of Remotely-Accessible Robotics Laboratory

Abstract: Robotnacka is an autonomous drawing mobile robot, designed for eaching beginners in the Logo programming language. It can also be used as an experimental platform, in our case in a remotely accessible robotic laboratory with the possibility to control the robots via the Internet. In addition to a basic version of the robot a version equipped with a gripper is available too, one with a wireless camera, and one with additional ultrasonic distance sensors. The laboratory is available on-line permanently and provi… Show more

“…A number of testbeds have originated in the educational domain. For example, the Robotic Programming Network (RPN) [2] makes a single humanoid robot remotely accessible while Robotnacka [12] provides access to three mobile robots. A comprehensive overview of other educational testbeds can be found in [4].…”

“…successfully charged its battery through the wireless chargers. 12 Out of a total of 111, 117, and 180 autonomous charge cycles, manual intervention was only required twice in the first experiment and once in the second, because a robots onboard control software froze. The success rate of the autonomous charging system was therefore 98.1%, 99.1%, and 100%, respectively.…”

“…In recent years, the development of remote robotics labs with stationary robots ceased and mobile robot testbeds became popular, especially with multiple robots. The PR2 Remote Lab [7] gives access to a PR2 personal robot, the RPN provides a NAO humanoid for remote access and the Robotarium [8], SyRoTek [9] and Robotnačka [10] deploy small wheeled robots. The PR2 Remote Lab [7] and the Robotarium [8] have a research and development focus, while the RPN [11], SyRoTek [9] and Robotnačka [10] target online education.…”
