Deployment and management of SDR cloud computing resources: problem definition and fundamental limits

Abstract: Software-defined radio (SDR) describes radio transceivers implemented in software that executes on general-purpose hardware. SDR combined with cloud computing technology will reshape the wireless access infrastructure, enabling computing resource sharing and centralized digital-signal processing (DSP). SDR clouds have different constraints than general-purpose grids or clouds: real-time response to user session requests and real-time execution of the corresponding DSP chains. This article addresses the SDR clo… Show more

“…Yet after this "knee point", P bc starts to overwhelm P br , resulting in an exponential increase in P b . There exist a plain region on the right side of the "knee point" because there are only little number of states in K =N and out of K m,K <N when N is large, so the magnitude of the resulting product terms in (10) and (11) are negligible, i.e. P br ≈ P b and P bc ≈ 0.…”

“…The emerging information technologies were hardly employed. These unemployed technologies include the wireless sensing networks [34][35][36], Internet of Things (IoT) [37][38][39][40], and cloud computing [41][42][43][44][45][46]. Particularly, IoT has been further integrated with the surveillance systems and the integrated system was termed as IoT monitoring [47][48][49][50].…”

“…C-RAN requires DSP resources in the cloud [14] and a set of distributed antennas and analog front-ends connected to the cloud by a highbandwidth network such as optical fiber. There is considerable interest in C-RAN as a base station technology by technology companies and service providers.…”
