Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV is a dynamic field. The latest updates from the World Health Organization (WHO) in the context of PMTCT date back to April 2012. The WHO recommends that low-and intermediate-resource countries introduce life-long triple therapy for HIVpositive women (WHO). The aim of the present study is to examine the relationship between maternal serology and clinical parameters in newborns. It is a prospective, descriptive, retro study carried out on 529 HIV-positive and 467 HIV-negative women in three hospitals in the city of Abidjan. Clinical parameters were measured using a balance and a measuring cup, and blood samples were taken. Among the 543 exposed infants, 2 were found to be seropositive after three PCR tests. In 94.9% of seropositive women, delivery was vaginal. Most newborns were born at full term (98.9%) in seropositive patients, with 65.1% having a birth weight of between 2,500 and 3,500 g and a good apgar score (92.7%) at the first minute and (99.5%) at the fifth minute. Breastfeeding was the most common method of delivery, irrespective of the mother's serostatus: 94.3% for seropositive and 97.6% for seronegative mothers. In this study, the mother's serology had no influence on the clinical parameters of newborns on ARV treatment.

Introduction: Predictions on the prevalence of diabetes mellitus, according to the International Diabetes Federation, indicated 9.3% in 2019 and nearly 10.9% of the general population in 2045. In Benin, the increase in this prevalence, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is constantly increasing. Diabetic foot is one of its most common complications. The aim of this work was to study the prognostic factors of diabetic foot in the Department of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition of the CNHU-HKM of Cotonou. Patients and method: This is a descriptive and analytical retrospective study of the prognostic factors of diabetic foot over a period of 3 years from January 2019 to December 2021 in patients who have been hospitalized or followed on an outpatient basis for diabetic foot in the Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition Department of the CNHU-HKM of Cotonou. Results: A total of 112 patients were included in this study. The average age of the patients was 59.70 ± 2.10 years. A male predominance was noted with a sex ratio (M/F) of 1.7. Mixed gangrene and phlegmons were the most common lesions. According to the classification of diabetic feet according to the University of Texas, 59.1% of patients had a 100% risk of amputation. Ten patients died from sepsis (8.9%). The average blood glucose on admission was 2.74 ± 0.23 g/l, reflecting the glycemic imbalance in these patients. There is a statistically significant association between the duration of progression of diabetes, the type of lesion and amputation. Patients whose diabetes has lasted more than 30 years and patients who are not monitored have a greater risk of death. Conclusion: Diabetic patients most often consulted at a late stage, compromising conservative treatment. The duration of diabetes and the type of lesion on admission were the main factors leading to amputation, thus compromising the functional prognosis. A lack of access to clean cooking fuels and technologies in Mali is causing negative health and welfare impacts on the population. There is a need to transition to cleaner cooking systems, and the production of biofuels is one promising solution. In order to successfully use biofuels in Malian households, it is necessary to calculate the sustainable bioenergy potential of the country. The aim of this study, therefore, was to assess this potential to determine if it can meet the cooking energy demand. Statistical data were used to estimate the bioenergy potential from three different biomass resources: crop residues, livestock waste, and municipal solid waste (MSW). Surveys in urban and rural areas in Mali were performed to assess cooking fuel consumption in the residential sector. Bioenergy potential and cooking energy demand were compared regionally to find out if biomass is a feasible substitute for traditional cooking fuels in Mali. It was shown that while there is high biogas potential in most of the regions, urban Bamako has a lack of biomass resources to cover the demand. Therefore, other clean alternatives like electric cooking should be considered for urban areas.
