Dependence of Off-Diagonal Components of χ(3) on Substrate Temperature of Epitaxially Grown Vanadyl Phthalocyanine Films

Abstract: Optically polarized light micrographs of isothermally melt-textured DyBa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ compounds (with 15 wt% Dy 2 O 3 addition) are presented to show evidence for pattern formation of DyBa 2 Cu 3 O 5 particles in DyBa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ grains. Different types of pattern were observed and were understood as arising from the crystal growth mechanism of 123 melt-textured materials. In an appendix, the case of patterns in magnetically textured samples is discussed.

“…These new developments must also be placed in the context of long efforts and progress which has been directed at employing organic thin films for solar energy conversion , and in sensors of various kinds. Finally, vacuum-deposited OMCs have also been proposed as materials with large second- or third-order optical nonlinearities, , ,,,,, or large χ (3) . There are, in addition, many, somewhat less conventional uses of organic thin films deposited in vacuum, including waveguides and optical couplers, ,,, organic/inorganic photodetectors, , lasers, etc.…”

“…The basic properties of many metal phthalocyanines have been studied in detail by various researchers (Gould 1985;Belgachi and Collins 1998). They also exhibit strong non-linear optical properties, due to their spatially extended π -electron system (Fang et al 1993). In order to utilize the mechanical flexibility inherently possessed by organic materials, many attempts have been made to develop polymeric gate dielectric layers.…”
