Dependence of inclusive jet production on the anti-kT distance parameter in pp collisions at $$ \sqrt{\mathrm{s}} $$ = 13 TeV

Abstract: The dependence of inclusive jet production in proton-proton collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV on the distance parameter R of the anti-kT algorithm is studied using data corresponding to integrated luminosities up to 35.9 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment in 2016. The ratios of the inclusive cross sections as functions of transverse momentum pT and rapidity y, for R in the range 0.1 to 1.2 to those using R = 0.4 are presented in the region 84 < pT< 1588 GeV and |y|< 2.0. The results … Show more

“…The scattered partons are initially highly virtual and evolve through QCD bremsstrahlung and pair production, forming a parton shower that hadronizes into a collimated spray of stable particles that is observable experimentally (a "jet"). Jet production rates and jet structure have been measured extensively in p( p) + p collisions [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12], and theoretical calculations based on perturbative QCD (pQCD) are in excellent agreement with such measurements [13][14][15][16][17].…”

“…For MATTER, the extracted value of A is significant while that of C peaks close to zero, indicating that the extracted value of q is due primarily to the first term in the braces in Eq. (12). In contrast, LBT results in a more significant contribution from the second term in Eq.…”

“…(Note that R influences the amount of background picked up by the jet clustering algorithm as well as the fraction of the full parton shower is typically contained in the jet. This analysis uses R = 0.4, a choice employed by several inclusive and heavy-flavour jet analyses [27,28]). The jets were required to be fully contained within the pseudorapidity region of |η| < 0.8.…”

“…The measurement of a jet production cross section as a function of gives the opportunity to examine the theoretical modeling of the perturbative and nonperturbative (NP) effects in parton evolution. The CMS Collaboration has recently published [3] the inclusive jet cross section measurement for each parameter, relative to = 0.4, covering = 0.1 − 1 in intervals of 0.1. The unfolded results are compared to leading order (LO) and higher order (NLO, NNLO) predictions with different parton shower and with and without NP corrections.…”
