“…The high exposure of the Norwegian population to dental services was also reflected by high Filling Margin scores compared with the other groups. This is in agreement with studies which reported higher DMF-S scores in Scandinavian countries compared to other countries in Europe and North America (Miller 1943, Starkey 1962, Massler, Ludwick & Schour 1952, Rovelstad et al 1959, Scheinin et al 1970, Marken & Rosenberg 1964, Mjor 1958. The finding that approximately 50% of total examined interproximal surfaces and 10% of buccal surfaces demonstrated imperfect filling margins in Norway is consistent with observations of Bjorn, Bjorn and Grkovic (1969) and Arneberg, Silness and Nordbo (1980) and suggests that most interproximal restorations are imperfect based on the Filling Margin Index.…”

“…However, although gingival health data were not acquired in the present study, earlier studies [Massler et al, 1952;Keene, 1964] of naval recruits, including CF subjects, have not shown evidence of a correlation of gingival health and caries status among Great Lakes recruit popula tions. The results in tables III and IV do, however, provide strong support for the concept that the salivary peroxidase sys tem is active in vivo.…”

“…There is no clear evidence of the relationship between caries and periodontal disease. Earlier studies reported no correlation between these disorders (Miller & Siedler, 1940;Massler, Ludwick & Schour, 1952), while later studies reported both positive (Dutta, 1965;Ainamo, 1970) and negative (Downer, 1970) correlations.…”
