Density Measurements of Propellant EHF-TU at (3 to 7) MPa Supercritical Pressures

Abstract: Endothermic Hydrocarbon Fuel-Tianjin University (EHF-TU) is one advanced propellant and fractionated from RP-3 extensively used in China. The density of propellant EHF-TU at supercritical pressures is measured using the flow conservation method. The measurement covers temperatures from (303 to 765) K and pressures of (3 to 7) MPa using three tubes with different sizes, and the density varies from (759 to 134) kg•m −3 . The n-decane is used for calibration, and the relative uncertainty of density measurement is… Show more

“…Surrogate mixtures have included cyclohexanes with substituents up to four carbons long. The properties of binary mixtures of n -butylcyclohexane in various linear alkanes (C 6 to C 16 ) , have been reported, but no study has published the properties of dodecane and hexadecane in t -butylcyclohexane and isobutylcyclohexane, which are isomers of n -butylcyclohexane. Isobutylcyclohexane has been found in the jet propellant, Endothermic Hydrocarbon Fuel-Tianjin University (EHF-TU), and is also formed during the catalytic cracking of heavier fuel compounds . The analysis of oil from the liquefaction of Swedish pine tentatively identified t -butylcyclohexane as a component .…”

“…JP-10, known as exotetrahydrodicyclopentadiene (C 10 H 16 ), is used not only as a hydrocarbon fuel in an aviation engine due to its high volumetric energy density, but also as the active coolant in the thermal management system to cool down the high temperature component on the supersonic and hypersonic aircrafts. For the design of the cooling channel of engines, the thermophysical properties of critical parameters of JP-10 such as density, vapor pressure, and viscosity, are required . Among these properties, density is essential for calculating constant-pressure specific heat, thermal expansion, and so forth. …”
