Technology is constantly evolving, and chronic health issues are on the rise. It is essential to have affordable and easy access to remote biomedical measurements. This makes flexible sensors a more attractive choice owing to their high sensitivity and flexibility along with low cost and ease of use. As an additional advantage, 3D printing has become increasingly popular in areas such as biomedicine, environment, and industry. This study demonstrates 3D-printed flexible sensors for tactile sensing. A biocompatible silicone elastomer such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with low elastic modulus and high stretchability makes an excellent wearable sensor material. Incorporating CNTs at varying concentrations (0.5, 1, 2) wt.% enhances the sensor’s mechanical strength, conductivity, and responsiveness to mechanical strain. In addition to enhancing the thermal stability of the composite by 44%, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) also enhanced the breaking strength by 57% with a 2 wt.% CNT loading. Moreover, the contact angle values improved by 15%, making it a biomedical-grade hydrophobic surface. The electrical characteristics of these sensors reveal excellent strain sensitivity, making them perfect for monitoring finger movements and biomedical measurements. Overall, 2 wt.% CNT-PDMS sensors exhibit optimal performance, paving the way for advanced tactile sensing in biomedical and industrial settings.

Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) devices with high robustness are promising in collecting powerful energy. In this study, highly elastic and pressure‐resistance sponge fabricated TENG capable of adapting to high strength impact in land and water transportation and scalable for any shape is demonstrated for harvesting wave energy and mechanical energy. The polydimethylsiloxane sponge prepared by sacrificial template method has interconnected network and large size ratio of cavity‐wall suitable for contact and separation. The operation modes of self‐contact and extra‐contact collaborating with MXene in electron transfer provide options for different operating conditions. The polydopamine‐MXene modification of the sponge enables higher output due to the combination of the electronegativity, excellent adhesion, and antioxidant ability. Sponges are used to collect mechanical energy and applied for TENG‐powered cathodic protection, making the 304 stainless steel (304 SS, Φ = 2 mm) electrode enter a thermodynamic stable state. What's more, the work also tries the universal strategies of program monitoring wave in the water tank and harvests the mechanical energy created by cars and passers‐by, which enrich the applications of sponge TENG.

Carbon aerogel is a promising material in various applications, such as water treatment, insulators, catalysts, and sensors, due to its porosity, low density, conductivity, and good chemical stability. In this study, an inexpensive carbon aerogel was prepared through lyophilization and post-pyrolysis using waste paper. However, carbon aerogel, in the form of short belts, is randomly entangled without a crosslinking agent and has weak mechanical properties, thus limiting its applications, which would otherwise be various. In this paper, a novel strategy is proposed to fabricate a PDMS-coated carbon aerogel (Aerogel@PDMS). Benefiting from microwave heating, precise PDMS coating onto the carbon frame was able to be carried out in a short amount of time. PDMS coating firmly tied the carbon microstructure, maintaining a unique aerogel property without blocking its porous structure. FE-SEM, RAMAN, XPS, and FT-IR were all used to confirm the surface change in PDMS coating. Compressible stability and water contact angle measurement showed that Aerogel@PDMS is a perspective organic solvent absorbent due to its good resilience and its hydrophobicity, and, as a result, its organic solvent absorption capacity and repeated absorption were evaluated, ultimately suggesting a promising material in oil clean-up and pollution remediation in water. Based on our experimental results, we identified elastic carbon aerogels provided by a novel coating technology. In the future, then, the developed carbon/PDMS composite can be examined as a promising option for various applications, such as environmental sensors, virus sensors, and wearable sensors.
