Nontoxic alloys with low melting temperatures are an interesting group of materials with many possible applications, among them as cooling liquids in different technologies, including computer chips, Li-ion batteries, and in nuclear reactors. This study focuses on Ga−Sn−Zn-based alloys with 0.09, 0.17, 0.35, 0.71, and 1.8 atom % additions of Bi, which could be suitable materials in the thermal management of various systems. This work presents the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity, as well as other properties crucial for liquid metal coolants, such as density, viscosity, surface tension, electrical conductivity, and thermoelectric power.

The available experimental data for the density and viscosity of liquid cadmium, cobalt, gallium, indium, mercury, silicon, thallium, and zinc have been critically examined with the intention of establishing both a density and a viscosity standard. All experimental data have been categorized into primary and secondary data according to the quality of measurement, the technique employed and the presentation of the data, as specified by a series of criteria. The proposed standard reference correlations for the density of liquid cadmium, cobalt, gallium, indium, silicon, thallium, and zinc are characterized by percent deviations at the 95% confidence level of 0.6, 2.1, 0.4, 0.5, 2.2, 0.9, and 0.7, respectively. In the case of mercury, since density reference values already exist, no further work was carried out. The standard reference correlations for the viscosity of liquid cadmium, cobalt, gallium, indium, mercury, silicon, thallium, and zinc are characterized by percent deviations at the 95% confidence level of 9.

Structure of Bi 100−x Ga x molten alloys containing 38•5, 50, 70 and 91•5 at. % Ga has been studied by means of X-ray diffraction method and compared with viscosity measurements data. Significant changes in the structure factor profile were observed in vicinity of the concentration 70 at. % Ga. The dynamic viscosity coefficient was calculated by use of a statistical atomic distribution model and a Born-Green kinetic theory. The concentration dependence of viscosity is in agreement with change of structure parameters obtained from diffraction data.
