Densities, Viscosities, and Excess/Deviation Properties of the Ternary System 2-(Methylamino)ethanol + Dimethyl Sulfoxide + Water and the Binary Subsystems

Abstract: Densities and viscosities of the ternary system 2-(methylamino)ethanol (MAE) + DMSO + water and its corresponding binary constituents have been measured experimentally over the whole composition range and the temperature range from 293 to 353 K. The excess molar volumes (V E), viscosity deviations (Δη), and excess free energies of activation (ΔG *E) of the binary systems were correlated with the Redlich–Kister equation, while the experimental data of ternary mixtures were represented by using Nagata–Tamura, C… Show more

“…In addition, as the temperature increases, the V E values of all binary systems increase to a certain extent. In our previous work, 27 we have found the similar results: the positive V E of blend MAE + DMSO and the negative V E of blends DMSO + H 2 O and MAE + H 2 O. However, the V E of BAE + DMSO is more positive (from about 0.25 to 0.45 cm −3 mol −1 at 293.15 K) than that of MAE + DMSO at the same temperature.…”

“…For the binary system of DMSO + H 2 O, the measured data in the previous work 27 have been compared with the literature data 35,36,42−44 over the whole composition range at 303.15 K, indicating good agreement except for the work of Alam et al 35 Therefore, the data of the DMSO + H 2 O binary system are not tabulated in this work. Only few density and viscosity data points for BAE + water binary blends are available for comparison in the investigated temperature range in this work, 45,46 as shown in Figure S3.…”

“…The sign of V E can reflect the nonideal behavior of the composition mixing. In our previous work,33 the excess molar volume V E for the 2-(methylamino)ethanol (MAE)/DMSO blends was observed positive over the entire composition range. The same phenomenon was also found for nonaqueous BAE/DMSO blends in a recent work.…”

“…Two and three parameter-based models: The two-parameter Heric equation (HRC) is of the following form [52]: The Jouyban-Acree model (JA) [57,58] is used for correlating the viscosities of liquid mixtures at various temperatures. The equation is proposed to be (24) Fitting capabilities of simple polynomial equations and viscosity correlations were tested for different degrees of polynomials by calculating the standard percentage deviation, , as:…”
