Densities and Viscosities for the Binary Mixtures of n-Nonane with 1-Heptanol, 1-Octanol, 1-Nonanol, and 1-Decanol

Abstract: The measurements were carried out using an Anton Paar digital vibrating Utube densimeter and an Ubbelohde capillary viscometer, and the entire composition range was investigated from 303.15 to 333.15 K at atmospheric pressure. In addition, the excess molar volumes and viscosity deviations of the mixtures were calculated and discussed. The Redlich−Kister equation was used to correlate the two derived properties. Furthermore, the viscosities of the studied mixtures were fitted to Eyring-type models.

“…This behavior occurs when the molecules have different molecular shapes and sizes . The Δη negative values increase as the carbon chain length of ketoester increases (ethyl acetoacetate > ethyl pyruvate), indicating that dispersion interactions increase with the size of ketoester . For the mixture of biodiesel + ethyl levulinate, the Δη shows negative deviations over the whole range of compositions and at all the temperatures, the minimum value occurs a ketoester mole fraction around of 0.60.…”

“…6 The Δη negative values increase as the carbon chain length of ketoester increases (ethyl acetoacetate > ethyl pyruvate), indicating that dispersion interactions increase with the size of ketoester. 48 For the mixture of biodiesel + ethyl levulinate, the Δη shows negative deviations over the whole range of compositions and at all the temperatures, the minimum value occurs a ketoester mole fraction around of 0.60. This condition is attributed to the domain of dispersion forces in the mixture and to the difference in size and shape of the FAME and ethyl levulinate molecules.…”
