“…During degeneration of post-ganglionic nerves there is a period of increased liberation of neurotransmitter, which is usually sufficient to activate temporarily the effector cells, causing 'degeneration activity' (see Emmelin & Trendelenburg, 1972). This phenomenon has been demonstrated in salivary glands of many species (Emmelin, 1981), but so far only the secretion offluid has been investigated. The present experiments deal with 'degeneration secretion' ofamylase from the parotid gland of the rat after parasympathetic or sympathetic denervation.…”
