Demonstration of surface transport in a hybrid Bi2Se3/Bi2Te3 heterostructure

Abstract: In spite of much work on topological insulators (TIs), systematic experiments for TI/TI heterostructures remain absent. We grow a high quality heterostructure containing single quintuple layer (QL) of Bi2Se3 on 19 QLs of Bi2Te3 and compare its transport properties with 20 QLs Bi2Se3 and 20 QLs Bi2Te3. All three films are grown on insulating sapphire (0001) substrates by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). In situ angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) provides direct evidence that the surface state of 1 Q… Show more

“…For metals, where the ratio τ φ /τ e is very large (of the order of 1000 [27]) this crossover occurs for a value ofλ small enough that a perturbative treatment is possible. However, for the parameters experimentally relevant for 3DTIs, with a smaller ratio τ φ /τ e around 10 [22][23][24], this crossover occurs for values ofλ of the order of the unity, which is beyond the range of validity of the HLN derivation. We have plotted in Fig.…”

“…4(a), presenting features which could arise from phonons in the AlO x , 33 the TI, 34 or coupled AlO x -TI modes. The occurrence of inelastic tunneling processes with the addition of sequential tunneling observed in shot 28 noise measurements (not shown) could lead to a fraction of the carriers being inelastically back-scattered against the flow of the current. 35 This could explain why the peaks in 1/f noise are observed for both signs of the bias.…”

“…LMR has been found only in limited materials, including silver chalcogenides [1], multilayer epitaxial graphene [2], topological insulators [3][4][5], three dimensional Dirac semimetal such as Cd 3 As 2 [6][7][8] and TlBiSSe [9], which has often been interpreted by either the theory proposed by Abrikosov [10] or the inhomogeneity in materials [1]. LMR behaviors are usually observed in a magnetic field applied perpendicular to the direction of the excitation current and have become one of the significant research interests in condensed matter physics and material science.…”
