Demonstration of resistance to satyrization behavior inAedes aegypti(Linnaeus) from La Réunion island

Abstract: 19Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus are competent vectors of arboviruses such as dengue and 20 chikungunya viruses which co-exist in some areas including La Réunion island. A kind of 21 reproductive interference called satyrization has been described in sympatric species where a dominant 22 species tends to control the spread of the other species. Here, we investigated satyrization in laboratory 23 experiments to provide insights on the potential impact on Ae. aegypti of a control campaign including a sterile… Show more

“…However, there are many reports of insecticide resistance developed by Ae. aegypti due to the overuse of chemical insecticides [4][5][6][7][8][9]. Therefore, biological controls might represent a complementary tool for controlling Aedes sp.…”

“…These two populations are in competition in our study area, where Ae. aegypti population even developed a resistance to satyrization 37 . The identification of such a risk requires the use of traps with similar efficiency for the competing populations.…”
