“…Variable results were obtained with the flurbiprofen 12.5 mg lozenges; the small sample size of this dosage group probably contributed to these findings. Overall the results for flurbiprofen 12.5 mg between this and a previous study 20 were consistent, providing assurance that the method is validated and, therefore, that the 8.75 mg results are relevant.…”

“…The demulcent effect can decrease the sensitivity of the sore throat model, and trials using lozenge formulations are associated with high placebo responses, as a non‐medicated lozenge is not a true placebo. This placebo effect may account for the borderline statistical significance for the primary efficacy variable, TOTPAR 15–120 min , although this variable demonstrated statistical significance compared with placebo in other clinical studies of the flurbiprofen lozenge 20,28 . In general, the results from this study are in accordance with other trials and overall strongly demonstrate efficacy for the flurbiprofen lozenge.…”

“…This double‐blind, randomised study used rating scales associated with the sore throat pain model to compare the efficacy of flurbiprofen 8.75 mg and placebo. These rating scales have previously been used successfully to assess the analgesic activity of flurbiprofen lozenges 6–8 …”

“…A new lozenge containing the non‐steroidal anti‐inflammatory drug (NSAID) flurbiprofen has been developed to relieve the pain and inflammation associated with sore throat. Flurbiprofen lozenges have been shown in clinical trials to provide relief from the symptoms of sore throat 6–8 …”
