Demographic, economic, geospatial data for municipalities of the Central Federal District in Russia (excluding the city of Moscow and the Moscow oblast) in 2010-2016

In the absence of economic and demographic growth in most small and medium-sized towns outside the largest and major urban agglomerations of the Central Federal District, it is important to identify migrationally attractive municipalities, which, through the use of their competitive advantages, could become promising for the regions’ economic development in the near future. The purpose of this article is to identify migrationally attractive municipalities within the regions of the Central Federal District outside the regional centers. For this purpose, theoretical concepts of importance for explaining the migration attractiveness of territories have been studied, the dynamics of migration growth in the municipalities of the Central Federal District has been analyzed. The database of indicators for municipalities of the Central Federal District in Russia in 2011-2016 serves as the initial data for analysis (Kalabikhina et al. 2019). As a result, the migrationally attractive municipalities beyond the regional centers are allocated in 50% of the regions of the Central Federal District.

Spatial choreography of the coronavirus

This paper offers spatial analysis of the coronavirus spread, testing and implementation of restrictive measures in the framework of social distancing within countries and Russian regions. The geography of the spread of the disease in the municipalities of the Central Federal District is presented, the speed and direction of the shift of the «center» of disease concentration are estimated. The paper uses geographical data, operational statistics on morbidity, deaths from COVID-19 and tests, official documents on restrictive measures within the framework of social distancing (on 10 April 2020). The mapping is performed on the ArcGIS geo-information platform. Some interpretations of spatial differentiation of traceable indicators are proposed.

Comparing intraregional trends of demographic development in the Russian Near North (on the example of Arkhangelsk, Vologda, and Kostroma Oblasts)

The article compares intraregional trends in demographic development of the old-developed territories of the Russian Near North: Arkhangelsk, Vologda, and Kostroma Oblasts. The author identifies trends in the fertility, mortality, and migration in 2011—2019 basing on the statistical indicators characterizing the demographic situation in municipal entities and urban districts of the old-developed areas in these regions. A comparative analysis of the demographic dynamic in the three regions confirmed the well-known conclusions about depopulation, urbanization, and migration loss in most municipalities. Steady depopulation was observed in medium-sized and small cities, including in municipal centers, where the inflow of population from the nearest periphery is decreasing. The further away from Moscow the region is, the higher the growth rate of the urban population and the rate of decline in the rural population.
