“…A study of 48 patients with rosacea revealed 5.7 times higher density of D. folliculorum colonization compared to healthy controls, indicating an association between the two conditions (Casas et al, ). However, causation has yet to be established (Bachmeyer & Moreno‐Sabater, ; Chen & Plewig, ; Cotliar & Frankfurt, ; Elston & Elston, ; Sabater‐Marco, Escutia‐Munoz, & Botella‐Estrada, ; Vu & English III, ; Yun, Levin, & Servat, ).…”

“…Demodicosis, or infection with the human Demodex mites, Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis, predominated the infectious blepharitis literature in 2013 [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21]. Ocular adnexal manifestations of these microscopic arachnids range from asymptomatic colonization to chronic blepharitis, chalazia, madarosis, or less commonly keratoconjunctivitis and can be confused with other inflammatory dermatoses, such as folliculitis, rosacea, and dermatitis and may even mimic malignancy [12][13][14].…”

Demodex could also be considered in the differential diagnosis of herpetic blepharitis as Yun et al reported a case of periocular Demodex folliculitis presenting as a vesiculopustular rash [15].…”
