Delivery of drugs using tamarind gum and modified tamarind gum: A review

Abstract: Tamarind seed polysaccharide is an emerging excipient, which is being used and investigated for the preparation of various dosage forms. Functionalization of tamarind gum (TG) enhances the properties of native tamarind polysaccharide like degradability, hydration, viscosity and swelling. Due to these excellent properties, researchers investigated the application of modified TG in various drug delivery systems. TG and modified TG are found to be appropriate for the designing of oral, nasal, ophthalmic, colonic … Show more

“…Several substances find a perfect home in it. When exposed to warm water, it forms a thick gel and is almost entirely insoluble in organic solvents [10]. This gum has been used to create many carrier systems for medication administration via the mouth, nose, eyes, and intestines.…”

“…ATG is compatible with common excipients and can be easily processed. [14][15][16][17][18] Overall, the use of ATG in solid dispersions provides a flexible solution to problems with solubility and enhances drug delivery. We have performed this effort to use the ATG in the solid dispersion with higher solubilities and dissolutions through fastdissolving tablets in light of all these potential benefits of the ATG.…”

“…The carboxymethylation of gum was done so, as to enhance the disintegration property whereas calcium complexation enhances the absorption ability of the gum. This would result in the rapid release and disintegration of tablets [10,11].…”
