Deletion of either the regulatory gene ara1 or metabolic gene xki1 in Trichoderma reesei leads to increased CAZyme gene expression on crude plant biomass

Abstract: Background Trichoderma reesei is one of the major producers of enzymes for the conversion of plant biomass to sustainable fuels and chemicals. Crude plant biomass can induce the production of CAZymes in T. reesei , but there is limited understanding of how the transcriptional response to crude plant biomass is regulated. In addition, it is unknown whether induction on untreated recalcitrant crude plant biomass (with a large diversity of inducers) can be su… Show more

“…Most metabolic engineering studies addressed at improving chemical production in native cellulolytic microorganism have been performed on anaerobic bacteria, while research on fungi has been mainly focused on enhancing production of cellulases with few exceptions . Generally, sugar catabolism in anaerobic (hemi/)cellulolytic bacteria produces a mixture of organic acids (including acetic acid, formic acid, and LA), ethanol, H 2 , and CO 2 (Fig.…”

“…For more than eight decades, research has been conducted on the use of different species of Trichoderma . Multiple mechanisms of action have been described, but the most relevant are (a) the production of secondary metabolites that strengthen the plant’s immune system [ 10 , 11 ], (b) the action of natural mycoparasites and antagonistic agents [ 12 ] and (c) the promotion of seed germination and plant growth, as well as an increased root and foliage biomass and mineral assimilation [ 13 , 14 , 15 ].…”
