Delayed Endovascular Stenting of Right Subclavian Artery Pseudoaneurysm Caused by Gunshot Accident in a Syrian Refugee: A Case Report

Abstract: Sharp penetrating injuries causing right subclavian artery pseudoaneurysm are considered rare. Surgical repair is reportedly associated with a high mortality rate and is considered technically challenging. In this case report, we report the successful endovascular repair of a delayed pseudoaneurysm of the right subclavian artery caused by a gunshot injury in a 22-year-old Syrian refugee that was associated with significant right brachial panplexopathy. The patient was successfully managed with angioplastic bal… Show more

“…These dissections carry a risk of neural injuries, in particular the brachial plexus, recurrent laryngeal nerve and phrenic nerve with significant long-term complications associated, even with early recognition and repair of nerve injury 11. Endovascular intervention in the form of stenting the subclavian artery is a less invasive repair option, with reduced pain, bleeding risk and infectious complications 18 19. There is still a paucity of evidence into the long-term results of subclavian stents, including patency rates, in particular for young trauma cases such as this.…”

“…En sık sebep travmadır. 4,5,6 Ekstremite psödoanevrizmları şişlik, ağrı gibi şikayetlere neden olabileceği gibi rüptür, enfeksiyon, tromboembolik komplikasyonlar, kompresyona bağlı nörovasküler semptom ve bulgulara da neden olabilir. 7 Bu nedenle erken tanı ve tedavisi önemlidir.…”

“…10 A pseudoaneurysm can produce symptoms such as dyspnea, dysphagia, upper limb edema, and upper limb ischemia by compression of the surrounding tissues, and can cause life- threatening massive hemorrhage in case of rupture of the pseudoaneurysm. 6,11 It can also be asymptomatic, occurring in weeks to years after the trauma, averaging about 5 years. 11 In our case series, the shortest time from trauma to the discovery of SAP was 6 months and the longest time was 5 years, which is consistent with the reports above.…”
