Delayed Cutaneous Metastasis of Gastric Carcinoma

Abstract: This paper describes a case of skin cancer resembling carcinoma en cuirasse associated with multiple bone lesions, which were both judged to be due to metastasis of poorly differentiated carcinoma of the stomach, the primary lesion excised ten years previously. Overt bone involvement had been observed for more than two years and a half. Histologic examination of a skin biopsy specimen showed that carcinoma cells had infiltrated into the middle and lower dermis, forming clusters and strands in an abundance of f… Show more

“…The skin metastasis of gastric carcinoma may be in the form of cutaneous nodules, cellulitis, 18 carcinoma en cuirasse, infiltrated skin plaques, carcinoma erysipelatoides, 16 nodules 19 or a large cauliflower‐like papillomatous mass 17 . The carcinoma cells are seen in the middle and lower dermis, forming glands, clusters or strands of neoplastic cells in an abundance of fibrous stroma 87,88,150 (Fig. 4).…”

“…Most cases present as firm, non‐ulcerated nodules 3 . But they can infrequently manifest as erysipelas‐like pattern, 3 scirrhous carcinoma, 6 zosteriform pattern or lesions resembling an epidermoid cyst 3 . In this case, the skin lesions looked like non‐specific contact dermatitis or photodermatoses, which is extremely rare manifestation of cutaneous metastases.…”
