A short passage of prose was read under delayed auditory feedback (DAF) by 24 high MAS and 24 low MAS Ss, while an equal number of Ss read the passage under immediate auditory feedback (IAF). Reading times were recorded and oral recalls were taken immediately following the reading and 24 hr. later. Reading time was significantly shorter for IAF readings. Under DAF, high MAS Ss read significantly faster than low MAS Ss, although no time difference was found for IAF presentation. Both immediate and delayed recalls were poorer following DAF reading, but the effect of S anxiety did not significantly affect retention of this verbal task.
