“…A previous study supported the hypothesis that optimal stability of silorane adhesive can be achieved; however, concerns regarding the quality and long-term stability of the hybrid layer created by applying the P90 adhesive have been reported. 23 In another study, 24 an intermediate zone of approximately 1 µm between the silorane primer and the bond was detected. This zone has been claimed to be the weakest link in the failure mechanism of silorane restorations.…”

“…The adhesive system of low shrinkage (silorane) composite resins differs from other 2-step self-etching agents because the self-etching primer requires polymerization (Magni et al, 2008;Navarra et al, 2009), which differentiates it from other methacrylate-based bonding agents (Grégoire et al, 2010;Mine et al, 2010). Navarra et al showed a higher degree of conversion of silorane adhesive in the hybrid layer than in the Clearfil SE Bond system, which is a fundamental prerequisite for the stability of the adhesive bond.…”

“…1 The main adverse effect of this material is volumetric shrinkage, which contributes to stress formation along the bonded interfaces of restorations 2 as well as to the formation of gaps in the composite-dentin interface, initiating the microleakage process. 3 Microleakage is defined as the passage of bacteria, fluids, or molecules between a cavity wall and the restorative material applied to it, and microleakage may cause hypersensitivity, recurrent caries, and pulpal pathoses.…”

“…8 Silorane was so named by the manufacturer to indicate a hybrid compound of siloxane and oxirane functional moieties. 2 The silorane matrix is formed by a cationic ring opening of the silorane monomers during polymerization instead of freeradical polymerization of methacrylate monomers. 9 Therefore, a significantly lower polymerization shrinkage and lower stress development occur.…”
