Degradation of a Micro-Hybrid Dental Composite Reinforced with Polyaramide Fiber under the Influence of Cyclic Loads

Abstract: Dental composites reinforced with glass fibers have a low tensile modulus and relatively low fatigue resistance. The aim of the study was to analyze the fatigue properties of a dental composite reinforced with polyaramide fibers under the influence of a cyclic, vertical load. For this purpose, we designed a thermoformable template, corresponding to the construction of adhesive bridges in the side section of the jaw. Fifty-four composite samples were made for the study. They were divided into three groups—contr… Show more

“…Inappropriate finishing and polishing may result in plaque retention, secondary caries, gingival inflammation, and failure of the restoration. Other reasons for degradation of dental restorations are the harsh conditions in the oral environment such as parafunctional forces and erosive agents [ 4 , 5 ]. In this study, we compared two polishing systems for resin composite materials: diamond-particle-coated burs and paper discs coated with aluminum-oxide.…”

“…Oral conditions offer difficult surroundings for survival of the dental restorations. Various factors may affect the surface roughness and the adherence of the bacterial plaque, such as the type of polymerization, parafunction, and the patient’s diet [ 4 , 5 ].…”

“…In extant studies, researchers have also experimented with different particles, aiming to identify those that would strengthen dental composite materials most effectively by modifying their mechanical properties [ 12 ]. For example, silicon nanoparticles in different weight ratios [ 2 ] or particles of aluminum trioxide [ 13 ], alumina-polycarbonate [ 14 ], and amorphous calcium phosphate [ 15 ] have been previously incorporated into the basic bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA) organic resin matrix.…”

“…Also, quercetin can inhibit both MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression, mediating the interaction between both the anti-oxidation activity and expression of MMPs. (11)(12)(13) Another antioxidant that can be tried is chlorogenic acid. Chemically; it is an ester formed between caffeic acid and quinic acid.…”
