Degenerate Ground State in a MesoscopicYBa2Cu3O7x

Abstract: We have measured the current-phase relationship I(ϕ) of symmetric 45 • YBa2Cu3O7−x grain boundary Josephson junctions. Substantial deviations of the Josephson current from conventional tunnel-junction behavior have been observed: (i) The critical current exhibits, as a function of temperature T , a local minimum at a temperature T * . (ii) At T ≈ T * , the first harmonic of I(ϕ) changes sign. (iii) For T < T * , the second harmonic of I(ϕ) is comparable to the first harmonic, and (iv) the ground state of the j… Show more

“…Neat fingerprints of the resistively and capacitively shunted junction ͑RCSJ͒ model are found. The results add novel information to the few studies realized on submicron HTS junctions, mostly bicrystal, available in literature, [11][12][13][14] and give promise of a new generation of competitive deep-submicron GB HTS JJs.…”

“…1,2,11 In DID junctions, nonmonotonic temperature dependence of critical current [12][13][14][15][16] occurs due to the formation of midgap Andreev resonant states ͑MARSs͒ at the interface. 17 The MARSs stem from sign change of pair potentials of d-wave superconductors.…”

“…For our purposes, it is worthwhile to point out only typical features. Relevant experiments were made for various types of junctions involving only YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7-δ electrodes [50][51][52][53][54][55][56]. It turned out that a steep increase of ( ) J I T at 0 T → predicted for clean junctions with the ASJ midgap states is not observed.…”
