Defocused Images of Stacking Faults

Abstract: Effects of objective lens defocusing on the diffraction images of stacking faults are studied theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that defocusing results either in displacement of the stacking fault image or in a change of the amplitude of the intensity oscillations depending on the diffraction conditions and the location depth of an imperfection. Methods of determining the nature of stacking faults using defocused microphotographs are proposed.
