“…This has been shown to prevent crows' feet recurrence more than what would be anticipated by a standard facelift or a facelift with blepharoplasty even with an extended dissection associated with large traction and tension. 35,36 The muscle may also be split laterally, and the cut ends separated without disturbing eyelid function to further reduce mimetic wrinkles of facial expression 35 (Fig. 8).…”

“…There is no longer need to divide and separate the OOM fibers or make more aggressive resection 39 procedures with the drawback of altering the facial expression during movements, and further fat or SMAS graft procedures are not necessary. 40 The OOM elastic flap is a powerful tool that results in the improvement of the lower lid and malar region. Because the septum remains attached to the orbicularis, when the muscle is tractioned superolaterally, the septum is tightened, reducing postseptal fat pads and in many cases eliminating the need for lower lid skin excision or other manipulation of postseptal fat, according to the principle of "passive septal tightening" stated by Hester.…”

“…On the contrary, some authors have instead focused their attention on the importance of the OOM in periorbital rejuvenation surgery and resection techniques 39,40 for treatment of crow's feet and lower lid rejuvenation have been described. Other described using OOM suspension techniques 17,18,[41][42][43] to provide superior traction to improve the periorbital region.…”
