“…Its results revealed that total of 2022 patients were hospitalized in ICUs and acquired length of hospital stay more than 15 days. (5) Catheter-associated urinary tract infection is defined as a urinary tract infection that occurs among patients with an indwelling urinary catheter, where was in place for >2 days, at least one of the following signs or symptoms: fever (>38.0°C, suprapubic tenderness ,costovertebral angle pain or tenderness ,urinary urgency ,urinary frequency ,dysuria , Patient has a urine culture with no more than two species of organisms identified, at least one of which is a bacterium of ≥105 CFU/ml (6) Several strategies have been used by healthcare specialists to deal with and prevent the risk of CA-UTIs among critically ill patients. These methods include hand hygiene practices, methods of handling indwelling catheter, urine collecting system.appropriately, securing catheter properly, maintaining unobstructed urine flow and closed sterile drainage system, However, the application of antiseptic chlorhexidine gluconate 2% bathing for the critically ill patients is the most proper method for controlling the source of CAUTIs infection.…”

“…The hospital laboratory follows the UK Standards for Microbiological Investigation for examination of urine, reporting a urine culture as positive when caused by a single organism that is present in a concentration of ≥ 10 5 CFU/ml. 13 Urine culture results were available for those urine tests sent by the hospital and by the majority of local general practices who are geographically near the hospital and as such utilise the hospital laboratory. Most patients referred to our hospital live within the catchment area for the hospital laboratory.…”

“…Patients may be biologically heterogeneous in terms of symptoms, or by having different etiologies leading to similar phenotypes that are then diagnosed as belonging to the same disease, but clinical heterogeneity is also an important factor, as non-standardized clinical input and outcome measures create technical variation that obscures disease progression of treatment response, making tracking of these processes difficult. For instance, with respect to urinary tract infections (UTI), there has been a lack of standardization in the definition of UTIs in neuro-urological patients [ 46 ]. This lack of standardization is also found in other patient cohorts [ 47 , 48 ].…”
