Abstract:Lower bounds are demonstrated for a specific quotient of differences of Taylor polynomials of functions whose inverse Fourier transform is non-negative and additionally may be isotropic or decreasing. This provides insight on the spectra of differential operators obtained by using truncated moment expansions, especially their definiteness. Physical applications include the approximation of nonlocal elasticity or nonlocal electrostatics by gradient theories, and the Kramers-Moyal expansion.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
