This paper explores the extensive impacts of deepfake technology through expert in-depth interviews, across various societal dimensions, emphasizing ethical, legal, and social challenges. Deepfake technology, characterized by its ability to create convincing but artificial representations, has raised significant ethical and social concerns due to its potential for misuse in misrepresentations, abuse, and fraud. These concerns are exacerbated by the technology's rapid advancement, which has surpassed both public understanding and existing regulatory frameworks, highlighting the urgency for a balanced consideration of its harms and benefits. The paper further examines deepfakes' potential to undermine the integrity of elections and democracy by distorting perceptions of political candidates, thus posing risks to electoral integrity. The cultural implications of deepfakes necessitate a reevaluation of communication ethics and representation, challenging established notions of truthfulness. The legal landscape, grappling with issues of privacy, defamation, and copyright, faces significant challenges in accommodating the nuances of deepfake technology, calling for robust legal frameworks. Furthermore, the development of detection and prevention strategies underscores the technological efforts to counteract deepfakes' destabilizing effects on social and political stability.

The development of deepfake technology resulted in a new era of societal disruption, which has sparked significant challenges regarding the nature of genuine knowledge and the ethical predicament that our generation is currently confronting. This article explores the ramifications of deepfake in contemporary society and draws its motivation from the well-known novel of Doctor Faustus. Deepfake, also known as artificial intelligence-generated altered media, present a substantial risk to the veracity of information, as well as an opportunity to warp perceptions of reality and erode trust. This article sheds light on the ethical conundrums that result from the manipulation of information by investigating the influence that deepfake has had on a variety of disciplines. The paper highlights the critical need for ethical awareness, legislative frameworks, media literacy, and technology breakthroughs to offset the detrimental consequences of deepfakes. We will only be able to successfully negotiate the treacherous junction of technology, knowledge, and morality if we work together to do so. Then only will we be able to safeguard the veracity of knowledge and preserve the foundations of an equitable and enlightened society.

The study explores the future of AI-driven media and info-communication as envisioned by experts from all world regions, defining relevant terminology and expectations for 2050. Participants engaged in a 4-week series of surveys, questioning their definitions and projections about AI for the field of media and communication. Their expectations predict universal access to democratically available, automated, personalized and unbiased information determined by trusted narratives, recolonization of information technology and the demystification of the media process. These experts, as technology ambassadors, advocate AI-to-AI solutions to mitigate technology-driven misuse and misinformation. The optimistic scenarios shift responsibility to future generations, relying on AI-driven solutions and finding inspiration in nature. Their present-based forecasts could be construed as being indicative of professional near-sightedness and cognitive dissonance. Visualizing our findings into a Glasses Model of AI Trust, the study contributes to key debates regarding AI policy, developmental trajectories, and academic research in media and info-communication fields.
