Deep ugrizY imaging and DEEP2/3 spectroscopy: a photometric redshift testbed for LSST and public release of data from the DEEP3 Galaxy Redshift Survey

Abstract: We present catalogs of calibrated photometry and spectroscopic redshifts in the Extended Groth Strip, intended for studies of photometric redshifts (photo-z's). The data includes ugriz photometry from CFHTLS and Y -band photometry from the Subaru Suprime camera, as well as spectroscopic redshifts from the DEEP2, DEEP3 and 3D-HST surveys. These catalogs incorporate corrections to produce effectively matchedaperture photometry across all bands, based upon object size information available in the catalog and Moff… Show more

“…With these improved methods and enlarged samples from future surveys, fully photometric HOD modeling will be a powerful tool for studying the galaxy-halo connection with future imaging surveys such as LSST. (Cooper et al 2012;Zhou et al 2019). The method for computing the DR8 photo-z's is the same as described in section 3; as a result the photo-z performance in DR8 South is very similar to the DR7 photoz's used in this paper.…”

“…The second data set is a combination of DEEP2 (Newman et al 2013) and DEEP3 spectroscopic redshifts and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey (CFHTLS) (Hudelot et al 2012) photometry in ugriz bands; this combined data set is described in Zhou et al (2019). The depth of the CFHTLS-Deep imaging is comparable to that of the LSST 10-year stack and the DEEP2 and DEEP3 spectroscopy is complete to R AB = 24.1 over the redshift range of 0 < z 1.4.…”

“…Table B1 lists the redshift surveys used as training samples in each region. In addition to the redshift catalogs used for training the DR7 photo-z's (described in §3.2), in the BASS/MzLS region we can also utilize redshifts from the DEEP3 Galaxy Redshift Survey (Cooper et al 2012;Zhou et al 2019). The method for computing the DR8 photo-z's is the same as described in section 3; as a result the photo-z performance in DR8 South is very similar to the DR7 photoz's used in this paper.…”
