Deep Tunnel for Regulating Combined Sewer Overflow Pollution and Flood Disaster: A Case Study in Guangzhou City, China

Abstract: Abstract:The DongHaoChong (DHC) basin is located in the central city zone of Guangzhou City, China. Owing to the high density of buildings and low quality of the drainage pipe network in the city, diversion of rain and sewage is difficult. Waterlogging occurs frequently and combined sewer overflow (CSO) pollution is a serious problem during the rainy season. Therefore, a deep tunnel for the DongHaoChong basin has been planned and its construction is currently underway. An urban rainstorm model for the DongHaoC… Show more

“…Over 80% of the annual precipitation falls during the rainy season from April to September [12,34]. This area is well known for its dense interlocking river network and has gone through dramatic urbanization over the past 20 years; the impervious land changed from 12,998 ha in 1990 to 59,911 ha in 2009 [35,36]. In the Tianhe (Site/Rain gauge 2) and Panyu (Site/Rain gauges 1, 3-6) Districts, the imperious land ratio (based on Landsat images) Water 2017, 9, 411 3 of 18 increased from 16% to 71% and from 2% to 40% from 1990 to 2013, respectively.…”

“…Konsep terowongan air (tunnel) itu sendiri dapat digunakan dalam beberapa tujuan atau fungsi dalam mengatasi banjir, salah satunya menurut Wu et. al (2016) menyatakan bahwa suatu tunnel direncanakan dan di-design untuk menyediakan penyimpana sementara untuk aliran banjir dan sewage system yang tidak mampu dialirkan secara bersamaan dalam suatu badan air guna mengurangi debit puncak banjir di hilir.…”
