O café é uma das commodities agrícolas fundamentais para a economia brasileira e poucos estudos têm avaliado a influência das variáveis econômicas na oferta cafeeira. Assim, objetivou-se com este trabalho mensurar a influência que as variáveis econômicas promovem na variação da oferta do café arábica na região Nordeste do Estado de São Paulo. Foram utilizadas séries históricas de produção cafeeira e de variáveis econômicas do período de 2000-2015. As variáveis econômicas foram: crédito rural total, o crédito rural da agricultura, a área colhida de café, o valor adicionado na agropecuária, a participação da agropecuária no valor adicionado total, valor da produção do cafeeiro e valor adicionado fiscal dos municípios. Na modelagem utilizou-se de um modelo de regressão linear múltipla (RLM), sendo a oferta cafeeira a variável dependente e as variáveis econômicas as variáveis independentes. O modelo desenvolvido para estimar a oferta do cafeeiro em função das variáveis econômicas demonstrou elevada significância (p < 0,05). A evolução da oferta cafeeira é significativamente sensível às variações dos fatores econômicos. As variáveis econômicas com maior influência na variação da oferta cafeeira são a área colhida de café e o valor de produção do café.

<p> Recent studies have shown that coffee production costs have been rising above inflation and that the activity has become less attractive to producers. One of the ways to try reducing costs is through the mechanization of activities. The objective of this study was to evaluate the production cost and economic viability of arabica coffee in the state of Espírito Santo, comparing manual and semi-mechanized harvest to different yield levels. For the feasibility analysis, the techniques of Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return were used and the sensitivity analysis was used for risk assessment. The results show advantages of semi-mechanized harvest. At the level of 50 bags per hectare, the activity was profitable considering the interest rate of 8%. In manual harvesting, the IRR is 8.3% and, in the semi-mechanized harvest, the IRR is 16%. Producers must invest in higher yield levels with new technologies and mechanization to have greater return in the activity. </p>

-The objective of this work was to estimate the coffee supply by calibrating statistical models with economic and climatic variables for the main producing regions of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The regions were Batatais, Caconde, Cássia dos Coqueiros, Cristais Paulista, Espírito Santo do Pinhal, Marília, Mococa, and Osvaldo Cruz. Data on coffee supply, economic variables (rural credit, rural agricultural credit, and production value), and climatic variables (air temperature, rainfall, potential evapotranspiration, water deficit, and water surplus) for each region, during the period from 2000-2014, were used. The models were calibrated using multiple linear regression, and all possible combinations were tested for selecting the variables. Coffee supply was the dependent variable, and the other ones were considered independent. The accuracy and precision of the models were assessed by the mean absolute percentage error and the adjusted coefficient of determination, respectively. The variables that most affect coffee supply are production value and air temperature. Coffee supply can be estimated with multiple linear regressions using economic and climatic variables. The most accurate models are those calibrated to estimate coffee supply for the regions of Cássia dos Coqueiros and Osvaldo Cruz.Index terms: Coffea arabica, climate, econometrics, modelling, rural credit. Os modelos foram calibrados com uso de técnicas de regressão linear múltipla, e todas as combinações possíveis foram testadas para a seleção das variáveis. A oferta cafeeira foi a variável dependente, e as demais, as independentes. A acurácia e a precisão dos modelos foram analisadas pelo erro percentual médio e pelo coeficiente de determinação ajustado, respectivamente. As variáveis que mais influenciam a oferta cafeeira são o valor de produção e a temperatura do ar. É possível estimar a oferta cafeeira com regressões lineares múltiplas por meio de variáveis econômicas e elementos climáticos. Os modelos mais acurados são os calibrados para estimar a oferta cafeeira das regiões de Cássia dos Coqueiros e Osvaldo Cruz.
