“… Seated measurements of isometric muscle strength for the hip extensor; using a handheld dynamometer ). Prone measurements and standing measurements were conducted at level 5 (normal), according to MMT version 9 8 ) . With one hand, the tester used the HHD to apply resistance to the distal third of the thigh, and the other hand was used to hold the pelvis still.…”

“…Of these, hip extensor strength is often used for muscle strength evaluation because it plays an important role in pelvic stability when rising into a standing position, walking, and standing 6 , 7 ) . Therefore, if a patient cannot assume the prone position for MMT, other possible measurement positions include standing up with the front of the trunk against an examination table and lying in the supine position while the tester lifts the leg for measurement and the patient holds the pelvis and trunk in a straight line 8 ) . However, because the presence of marked flexion contracture of the spine or lower limbs of the hip can make discerning criteria for measurement in the supine position difficult, the muscle strength of the leg not being measured may affect the measurement results in the standing position.…”

“…Nurses and physiotherapists are essential health professionals in the multidisciplinary team as they have direct contact with the patients [ 11 ]. Moreover, the personal experience of the students of these disciplines will condition their attitude towards the patients [ 12 , 13 , 14 ].…”

“…A number of MVIC positions have been used in the literature to assess the gluteus maximus, including the Biering-Sorenson position ( Cambridge et al, 2012 ; McGill, McDermott & Fenwick, 2009 ), the prone straight leg hip extension position ( Barton et al, 2014 ; Worrell et al, 2001 ), the prone bent leg position ( Jakobsen et al, 2013 ; Youdas et al, 2013 ), the prone straight leg position with 70° of hip flexion ( Simenz et al, 2012 ), and the standing bent leg position ( Boudreau et al, 2009 ). The most commonly used position, however, is the prone bent-leg (90°) hip extension with manual resistance applied to the distal thigh (PRONE) ( Choi et al, 2015 ; Emami, Arab & Ghamkhar, 2014 ; Hislop et al, 2014 ; Kang et al, 2013 ; Kendall , 2005 ; Oh et al, 2007 ).…”
