Dedicated paclitaxel-eluting bifurcation stent BiOSS® (bifurcation optimisation stent system): 12-month results from a prospective registry of consecutive all-comers population

Abstract: Our registry showed that bifurcation treatment with a single dedicated paclitaxel-eluting bifurcation stent, BiOSS® Expert is feasible and successful. The long-term clinical results are satisfactory in this high-risk patient population.

“…16,17 Moreover, in our study, LLL was lower than in the original BiOSS Expert Registry (LLL MV, 0.56 mm; LLL MB, 0.26 mm). 3 This may be associated with an early phase of the learning curve and treatment of longer lesions in the previous work, with the subsequent need to implant additional stents. The current results are similar to those recently reported by our group on LMS coronary artery treatment.…”

“…2). 3,4 In the rDES group, any rDES available in the participating catheterization laboratories could be used (operator's decision The default strategy consisted of single stent implantation in the MVemain branch (MB) across the SB in all patients. Bifurcation lesions were assessed according to the Medina classification (visual assessment).…”

“…And what must be underlined is the fact that this complex is a “special bifurcation” often with big differences in diameter. In order to decrease the risk of carina shift, BiOSS Expert® stent (Balton, Warsaw, Poland) was developed . The main aim of this study was to assess prospectively the effectiveness and safety profile of the distal LMS stenosis treatment with dedicated bifurcation paclitaxel‐eluting stent BiOSS Expert®.…”

“…A registry of 63 patients has previously shown a TVR rate of 14 %. 16 The authors have speculated that the increased restenosis rate is due to paclitaxel coverage rather than use of a more effective limus-based drug. However, it is also possible that the actual BiOSS Expert design, particularly at the pericarinal region, does not provide sufficient radial strength and predisposes to higher restenosis rates.…”
