DecreasedDBC1Expression Is Associated With Poor Prognosis in Patients With Non-Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer

Abstract: PurposeThe deleted in bladder cancer 1 (DBC1) gene is located within chromosome 9 (9q32-33), a chromosomal region that frequently shows loss of heterozygosity in bladder cancer (BC). It is suspected that it acts as a tumor suppressor gene, but its prognostic value remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to investigate the value of DBC1 as a prognostic marker in BC.Materials and MethodsThe expression of DBC1 was determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis in 344 patients with BC (220 no… Show more

“…, 2013b; Song and Surh, 2012), resulting in uncertainty whether CCAR2 would serve as a useful predictive biomarker. Some reports have suggested that CCAR2 is reduced in tumors (Shim et al , 2013; Won et al , 2015), consistent with data from Ccar2 − / − mice exhibiting an increase in tumor formation (Qin et al , 2015). This also fits with the established role for CCAR2 in regulating stability of p53 through acetylation (Kim et al , 2008; Zhao et al , 2008) or inhibition of the p53 ubiquitin ligase Mdm2 (Qin et al.…”

“…Recently, interest has grown in the use of microarray-based gene expression profiling for predicting the survival and outcomes for individual cancer patients ( 6 ). High-throughput microarray technology can be used to investigate the RNA expression levels of hundreds of thousands of genes, and it can provide comprehensive insight for molecular levels of human cancer ( 7 ).…”

“…Reduced expression of BRINP1 caused by different mechanisms, such as promoter hypermethylation, has been revealed in a number of tumor types including lymphoproliferative malignancies, non-small cell lung carcinomas, and astrocytomas [6668]. Furthermore, in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, lower expression of BRINP1 is associated with unfavorable prognosis [69]. PROM1 is a pentaspan transmembrane glycoprotein that has been described by different research groups as a CSC factor in meningiomas [9, 10, 12, 13].…”
