Decreased heart rate variability in patients with psoriatic arthritis

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate autonomous regulation of the cardiac activity by means of the heart rate variability (HRV) assessment and possible influence of conventional cardiovascular risk factors and disease activity parameters on it in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). In total, 38 patients with the reliable diagnosis of PsA without clinically manifest cardiovascular pathology, known rhythm or conduction disturbances, diabetes mellitus, and hypercholesterolemia were included. In the c… Show more

“…A few studies have investigated HRV in PsA and demonstrated attenuated HRV. In a study with 38 patients with PsA and 25 healthy controls using 5-min HRV Gaydukova et al [49] found that SDNN was 65.1 ms and pNN50 12.9% in the PsA patients whereas in healthy controls SDNN and pNN50 were higher (83.2 ms and 20.6%, respectively). Proietti et al [50] also used short-term HRV in 26 patients with psoriasis and 27 healthy controls and found a significant difference in RMSDD between patients with psoriasis (39.…”

“…Laversuch et al (21) showed that HRV negatively affected systemic lupus erythematosus patients by using spectral analyses. It has been shown that HRV is suppressed in Behcet's disease patients by Ozdemir et al (22) and in psoriatic arthritis patients by Gaydukova et al (23).…”
