Decreased Breg/Th17 Ratio Improved the Prognosis of Patients with Ulcerative Colitis

Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of regulatory B (Breg) cells and T helper 17 (Th17) cells on pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis, explore the clinical significance of Breg/Th17 ratio on the prognosis of ulcerative colitis, and provide the theoretical basis for the targeted therapy, diagnosis, and prognosis of the disease. Methods Peripheral blood and colonic mucosa were collected from patients with ulcerative colitis. Hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to observe the pathological changes of colonic mucosa… Show more

“…Expression of pSTAT3 in CD25 + B cells was higher in uninflamed than paired inflamed CD tissue of the same region, consistent with the regulatory effects of these cells 53 . Regulatory B cells are associated with IL-10 and TGF-β, both upstream of pSTAT3 54,55 . Thus, observed pSTAT3 levels might indicate a protective role for CD25 + B cells in CD.…”

“…They are activated with the participation of various cytokines such as TGF-b, IL-6, and IL-23 and are involved in the inflammatory response, immune response to bacterial infection, and autoimmune diseases through the secretion of IL-17, IL-22, and other cytokines. 20 Studies have shown that the expression of Th17 cells and Note: Blood was obtained from the mouse heart. After it was fully anticoagulated, a veterinary hematology analyzer was used to complete the routine blood test within 4 h under RT.…”

“…Similar to helper T cells, they release various cytokines in some autoimmune diseases and tumors that are involved in immune regulation. Previous studies have shown that Breg cells (34) exist in the human body and are involved in the body's negative immune regulation. Specifically, these cells secrete IL-10 and other cytokines by B cells which isolated from the peripheral blood of healthy people (35).…”
