Decolorization of Remazol Black B Solution by PbO2 Modified Fenton Method in a Scaled Up Reactor

Abstract: Study on decolourization of remazol black B (RBB) solution has been performed in a scale up reactor. As an artificial waste, the dye sample that contains azo groups is difficult to decompose under ordinary environmental conditions so it requires further treatment before discharging to open aquatic system. Many efforts have been reported and further developed toward other azo dyes. One of an outstanding approach is Fenton method. This study modified the method with PbO2 rather than Fe2+. In this modification, t… Show more

“…The reaction that takes place is a spontaneous reaction based on a positive theoretical cell potential. Based on reactions (6)(7)(8), the reaction between PbO2 and H2O2 can produce Pb 2+ ions on the surface so that Pb 2+ will interact with H2O2 to produce hydroxyl radicals (⦁OH) which can degrade remazol black B compounds and produce new radicals so that the reaction can occur sequentially and rapidly. The PbO2 surface is a place that can facilitate the formation of hydroxyl radicals (⦁OH) because Pb 2+ is available on the surface.…”

“…Based on research conducted by Hasibuan et al [8], using Pb oxide in the reaction using H2O2 can initiate the formation of hydroxyl radicals. The hydroxyl radical (⦁OH) has a high standard reduction potential value of 2.8 V. The formation scheme that occurs is shown in reactions ( 9) to (13).…”

“…This algorithm adopts the biological mechanism proposed by Charles Darwin with his famous and controversial evolutionary theory. Some examples of the application of genetic algorithms are in the industrial field for determining machine layout [17]. Furthermore, genetic algorithms can be applied to the field of animal husbandry for determining the composition of animal feed, and in the field of civil engineering can be applied to design pipeline distribution lines.…”
