Decolorization of reactive azo dye by fenton and photo-fenton processes in aqueous solution: The influence of operating conditions, kinetics study, and performance comparison

Abstract: ABSTRACT. In this study, the effect of Fenton and photo-Fenton processes, which are advanced oxidation processes that use the hydroxyl radical for the decolorization of Novacron Black from aqueous solutions, on decolorization was investigated. Optimum levels of initial pH, temperature, hydrogen peroxide concentration, initial dyestuff concentration, and iron concentration were determined. Initial pH, Fe2+ concentration, temperature, and initial Novacron Black concentration are the most effective experimental p… Show more

“…First in the visual effect, the colorful aqueous solution of the dye can also visually produce unpleasant emotions. Different colors also interfere with the growth of plants and destroy the living space of living organisms in the water, so the pollution of dye wastewater is one of the important murderers of destroying the entire ecosystem [4] . Some dyes themselves are toxic, and serious ones can cause cancer.…”

“…The textile industry stands out as one of the most significant contributors to pollution due to the substantial quantities of dyes and chemicals it encompasses. The presence of these substances in water significantly contributes to environmental pollution and disrupts the ecosystems of various living organisms [ [1] , [2] , [3] ]. With over 100,000 commercial colors available, approximately 7 × 10 7 tons of dyestuff are produced annually [ [4] , [5] , [6] ].…”

“…It is crucial to effectively treat wastewater contaminated with dyes that are discharged from textile industries in order to prevent the pollution of surface water, soil, and the surrounding environment [ 2 ]. In recent times, a range of physicochemical and biological treatment methods have been recommended for the removal of dyes from these industrial wastewater streams [ 12 , 13 ].…”

“…In recent years, with the rapid development of industries, the sewage discharge is increasing gradually, and the water pollution problem is becoming more and more serious. Some dyestuff and heavy metal ion sewage produced by some industries is difficult to degrade and dyestuff molecules , and heavy metal ions can exist in the natural environment for a long time. The most important thing is that these dyestuffs and ions as carcinogens seriously affect the health of water organisms and human beings. Therefore, necessary treatment is needed before sewage is discharged. With the development of society, the treatment of dyestuffs and heavy metal ions in sewage has become the focus of developing modern civilized cities. However, because the composition of dyestuffs and heavy metal ions is very complex, the degree of pigment is too high, and the influence of acid and alkali is great, it is very hard for sewage treatment at present.…”
