Decolorization of Erythrosine B by Rhizopus arrhizus biomass

Abstract: The ability of Rhizopus arrhizus biomass for the removal of dye erythrosine B from aqueous solution was explored. The dye removal capacity of the biomass was evaluated by conducting batch tests using various parameters, viz. effect of pH, biomass dosage, contact time, modified biomasses and initial dye concentrations. The adsorption process followed a pseudo-secondorder kinetic model suggesting chemisorption might be the rate-limiting step. The equilibrium process was found to be in good agreement with Langmui… Show more

“…In adsorption experiments on solutions, an important parameter that affects the results of adsorption experiments is the pH of the solution [39]. pH affects not only the activity of functional groups on the surface of biomass, but also the availability of dye molecules in biomass adsorption [40]. The effect of pH on the adsorption of MG and AB in WC-M materials was investigated, and pH was used as the only variable condition for the experiments.…”

“…[ 11 ] In addition to this, the presence of such iodine rich chemicals in the water may also perturb the thyroid function. [ 12 ] Likewise, indigo carmine (IC) or acid blue 74 (3,3′‐dioxo‐2,2′‐bisindolyden‐5,5′‐disulfonic acid disodium salt) belongs to one of the oldest known synthetic indigoid group of colorants. [ 13 ] Such chemicals have found their widest use as a coloring agent in the textile and food industries as well as an additive in pharmaceutical tablets and capsules.…”
