Reporting on successful community climate adaptation will support the sharing of lessons learned and will reveal principles that can support the scaling-up of these efforts. In this chapter, community-based adaptation (CBA) is examined in a case study of Hojancha, Costa Rica, a cattle farming community whose river dried up, due to river basin degradation as well as prolonged drought. This chapter outlines the actions, over a period of decades, at different scales that resulted in community mobilization, river basin restoration, and overtime, the return of the community's water.
