Decision feedback equalizer for holographic data storage

Abstract: Holographic data storage (HDS) has attracted much attention as a next-generation storage medium. Because HDS suffers from two-dimensional (2D) inter-symbol interference (ISI), the partial-response maximum-likelihood (PRML) method has been studied to reduce 2D ISI. However, the PRML method has various drawbacks. To solve the problems, we propose a modified decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for HDS. To prevent the error propagation problem, which is a typical problem in DFEs, we also propose a reliability factor… Show more

“…When α decreases, the channel interference parameter also decreases because of the smaller intensity, and AWGN becomes the major factor in the received signal. In this article, for easier comparison, we chose α = 1 like the previous studies [17,18].…”

“…In the next experiment, the channel is affected by a blur grade of 2.0 and the a misalignment of 5%. We compared our proposed model with a decision feedback equalizer [17] and a 2D SOVA [18]. The BER performance according to the SNR is depicted in Figure 6.…”

“…The GST layer can be switched between crystalline and amorphous states by temperature control. The interesting properties of GST in the visible spectrum can be illustrated by its dispersion of refractive index (shown in figure 1(b)) [44], presenting distinct optical contrast between amorphous and crystalline states. GST shows the metalliclike behavior indicated by the imaginary part of the refractive index, which is feasible to support and confine a resonant mode.…”

“…Therefore, the data transfer rate in DNA is very slow and inconvenient in commercialization. From the above disadvantages, we can see that HDS became a promising contender owing to its potential to achieve both higher data density and rapid access rates [2]. In HDS systems, to store digital data, two coherent laser beams are intersected to create optical interference patterns that present the information of digital data stored in the cubic media [3].…”
