In a military context, the collection, analysis, and use of geographic data can provide leaders with timely and accurate information on which to base decisions. GIS systems are used to store, manipulate, analyze, and manage all types of geodata, and are widely used by many military organizations in military decision making processes (MDMPs). Apart from accuracy, usage of GIS in MDMPs has provided many advantages, becoming a powerful and popular tool in the militaries of developed countries. However, even though GIS is a sophisticated tool in MDMP, the Sri Lankan Army has not employed widespread use of these systems. Tactical operations in which covert movement is paramount to success depend on high quality data and information concerning enemy positions, as was the case in the Sri Lankan Civil War . A case study of base siting using GIS is explored here; in this research we attempt to introduce GIS as a powerful tool in MDMPs in the Sri Lankan military. Sri Lanka is a developing country that suffered from a terrorist war for more than 30 years. All decision making and data gathering was done manually, spending more money and man power that was realistically necessary. This research is focused on providing solid evidence for the use of GIS techniques in MDMPs, which can partially supplant slower, less reliable humanbased decision making processes. In selecting a suitable permanent or temporary military operation base in enemy territory, all parameters need to be evaluated accurately. Injecting logical and statistical data, thus more automated processes into command-level decisions, will minimize errors in MDMPs. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is utilized to structure commander's perceptions of important selection criteria, and optimal base selection procedures are described.

Although the Delphi and AHP techniques have been extensively utilised in maritime transport research, the application of a combination of both techniques together in this sector is still limited. Hence, this paper aims to review the application of a combined Delphi and AHP method in maritime transport research through a literature review process. Among others, this study looks into the area of research, the number of expert respondents employed, the minimum prerequisite set for the selection of respondents and whether there is a similarity of respondents in both the Delphi and AHP techniques. In a period that spans around 11 years between 2004 and 2014, it has been discovered that only a total of 8 studies involving the shipping and port sub-sectors have applied the combined method. It is hoped that this review could provide some guidance to researchers in the maritime transport or other relevant areas on how the combined technique could be implemented in future research.

Decisions related to acceptance or rejection of orders play an important role in companies engaged in make-to-order production. The incoming orders have a specific delivery date by which the customer expects the due date to be met and the order delivered. In some cases the level of input orders exceeds beyond the existing capacity. In such situations the main concern is to decide which orders must be accepted and which ones rejected taking into account the available production capacity. This paper prioritises the input orders according to a comprehensive and systematic multi criteria decision making (MCDM) model. It then proceeds with making decisions to either accept or reject orders according to the calculated prioritises and production constraints. Ultimately the optimum list of orders for acceptance is determined. The proposed model is a combination of two techniques of Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). In this model FAHP is used to determine the weights of criteria and TOPSIS is used for prioritizing the orders. Finally the proposed model is tested for its efficiency by application to a real case.
