Decidualization in the post-partum uterus of the mouse

Abstract: Summary. Unilaterally ovariectomized mice were allowed to complete one pregnancy before the second ovary was removed and sensitivity to decidualization was induced by hormone administration. The virgin uterine horn and the post-partum horn were stimulated to decidualize by the intraluminal injection of arachis oil. A greater decidual response was found in post-partum horns than in virgin horns. The foci of decidual induction in post-partum horns were regularly spaced reflecting the regular spacing of used and … Show more

“…1). Further, implantation of embryos in subsequent pregnancies will not occur in the vicinity of nodule cells, which are also associated with a reduced decidualization response (49). Interestingly, induction of in vivo decidualization was associated with enhanced expression of macrophage and lymphocyte chemoattractants Csf1 and Cxcl12 , along with the Cxcl12 receptor Cxcr4 (Fig.…”

“…Importantly, most wounds heal with scarring, whereas endometrial repair occurs without scarring, which otherwise occurs only during fetal development. However, in one study in the postpartum mouse [61] endometrial 'nodules' have been reported.…”

“…On day 4 postcoitus, artificial decidualization with separated deciduoma was induced with a modified protocol by infusion of 1 μl of sesame oil (the previous standard protocol used 10 μl of oil (17)) into one uterine lumen, whereas the contralateral horn without any treatment served as control. The oil-induced deciduoma were detected on day 6 by the blue dye method as described above.…”
