Decentralized wind energy systems providing small electrical loads in remote areas

Abstract: SUMMARYUsing a global systemic approach, the wind energy system operation behaviour is "rst simulated using "ve di!erent types of power curve for the wind turbine. Adding physical (charge current limitation) and cost considerations, we have determined the optimized energy system for various levels of satisfaction (LLP), i.e. both able to satisfy the load with a certain percentage of the load not satis"ed and to o!er the lowest kWh cost. We studied the in#uences of the power pro"le of the wind turbine that a!ec… Show more

“…The common methods derive the most economical system configuration from the candidate ones that meet the technical constraints and the reliability requirements (Muselli et al, 1999;Notton et al, 2001;Kellogg et al, 1996). Their applications are based on the hourly time-step simulation of the system for a predetermined configuration.…”

“…The problem of determining the optimum capacities for different types of renewable generation and storage systems has been studied in the literature [9]- [20]. Some researchers have determined the optimum capacity for stand-alone wind generation-battery systems [9], [10]. There are some studies that have been specifically conducted for large-capacity wind turbines [11]- [13].…”
